Resident Evil 5 – Treasures

Trinkets and treasures make their second appearance in the Resident Evil franchise in RE5. There are 50 unique treasures in all, and finding them all will net you the ‘They Belong in a Museum’ Trophy/Achievement.  Not to mention the fact that they’ll earn you a nice profit and help you acquire the means to max out your inventory and weapons.

Below is a list of the treasures that you’ll find in the game, and a general idea of where to find them. However, there are some general tips that you should keep in mind when you go treasure hunting.

  1. Destroy EVERYTHING! We normally wouldn’t suggest breaking up stuff, but if you’ve played RE4, you’ll know that even the most unlikely things can be found in rather common hiding places.  Crates are too easy–bust up those precious vases, destroy sacred altars, and knife out the lights–you’d be surprised how well fire keeps priceless jewels.
  2. If you can fight it, fight it!Resident Evil 5 has been chastized as being a little too forgiving to the player.  Granted, RE5 is pretty kind when it comes to dishing out the goods, but there are some instances where it might seem like running away is the better alternative.  Don’t be a coward!  To the victor go the spoils.
  3. What are you saving that for? Unlike in Resident Evil 4, RE5 doesn’t require you to save up your treasures so that they can be combined with other treasures for a larger profit.  As soon as you pick up something, sell it for cash.  What you do with the cash is up to you.

Idol (Gold)

Availability: Chapter 4-1 | Difficulty: 2 | Value: 3000

This is found in the Labyrinth, with the pull-cord statues and the staircase puzzles.  It is found in the southwest quadrant, and you can only find it once you’ve activated the first statue, and caused the staircase to move.

Ceremonial Mask

Availability: Chapter 3-11 | Difficulty: 2 | Value: 4000

Before jumping over to get onto the gondola, head into the cave in The Village.  At the end of the tunnel there is a chest with the Ceremonial Mask.

Jewel Beetle

Availability: Chapter 2-2 | Difficulty: 1 | Value: 2000

Fastened to a fence post on the east side of the train yard, around the train cars that make up the sort of maze of the map.  There are also several other locations where you can find Jewel Beetles, so keep your eyes peeled.

This is found on the South Dock, to the right of the Beast Slate.  The Brown Beetle is also found in other locations of the game, just as with the Jewel Beetle.

This is around the corner, to your left when you first leave the BSAA checkpoint.

On the Northeast dock, shoot or knife the animal skull above the first altar.

In the Execution Ground, it’s a good idea to knife out all burning fires.  You can find this one in the second torch.

Emerald (Square)

Availability: Chapter 2-1 | Difficulty: 2 | Value: 1000

Once you trigger the attack of Majini, get to higher ground.  Run around to the side of the group of buildings and find a ladder.  Climb onto the roof and go back to the building where you picked up the Port Key to trigger the attack.  This is found on the back-half of the roof.

Diamond (Square)

Availability: Chapter 2-2 | Difficulty: 2 | Value: 2000

This is tricky.  You can perform an Assist Jump in the Mines at a broken ladder if playing co-op, and your co-op partner can pick it up.  AI Sheva/Chris won’t think to shoot it down and pick it up, so you’ll have to.  Shoot the Diamond Square down and head on up the trail.  You can drop down and pick it up yourself once you get above the ledge.

Topaz (Oval)

Availability: Chapter 6-1 | Difficulty: 3 | Value: 2000

There are three Oval Topaz treasures found on this map.  The first can be found at the north end of the path that leads to the crane ladder (so therefore isn’t available if you skip the ambush by shooting the Majini who operates the controls).  Note that this may occasionally disappear (sucks).  The second is located just before your reach the two parallel cargo elevators, with the third on the deck almost in between them.

Ruby (Oval)

Availability: Chapter 4-1 | Difficulty: 1 | Value: 2000

Found in the Labyrinth, after pulling the cords on the red statue.

Sapphire (Oval)

Availability: Chapter 5-3 | Difficulty: 4 | Value: 2000

This is found in the Monarch Room, during the fight with Wesker and Jill.  Getting to this point can be a hassle given all the things that you’re tasked with, including defeat Wesker within 7 minutes.  Head up into the long hallways behind the main chamber.  This is found in a vase in the northwest corner of the map, and must be collected before the 7 minutes is up.

Emerald (Oval)

Availability: Chapter 5-3 | Difficulty: 4 | Value: 2000

Found in the Monarch Room during the battle with Jill and Wesker.  It’s hidden inside a sarcophagus in the northwest corner of the map.  It, like the Sapphire Oval must be collected before Wesker departs.

Diamond (Oval)

Availability: Chapter 2-2 | Difficulty: 2 | Value: 4000

This is found in The Mines, in the tunnel to your left before you come to the crank.

Topaz (Trilliant)

This is found in the caves, at the north end of the map.  It’s located in a chest at the dead-end (climb the ledge to reach it).

Ruby (Trilliant)

Availability: Chapter 4-1 | Difficulty: 1 | Value: 2000

This is found after falling prey to the unavoidable sarcophagus trap, in the south chest.

Sapphire (Trilliant)

Availability: Chapter 4-1 | Difficulty: 1 | Value: 2000

Found in the same section as the Ruby Trilliant, in the east chest.

Emerald (Trilliant)

Availability: Chapter 4-1 | Difficulty: 1 | Value: 2000

Found in the same section as the last two trilliant treasures–it’s in the west chest.

Diamond (Trilliant)

Availability: Chapter 4-2 | Difficulty: 1 | Value: 4000

This is just above the exit in the Worship Area.

Topaz (Brilliant)

Availability: Chapter 5-1 | Difficulty: 2 | Value: 2500

This is found lodged in the ceiling as you pass over the bridge to get into the Monarch Room.  Be sure to shoot it down as soon as you can, so you don’t forget about it after fighting all of those Lickers.

Ruby (Brilliant)

Availability: Chapter 5-3 | Difficulty: 1 | Value: 2500

Just as you exit the long tunnel on the way to the Monarch Room Entrance, look up.  This is embedded in the ceiling of the tunnel just before the exit of the tunnel.  Easy to miss.

Sapphire (Brilliant)

Availability: Chapter 5-3 | Difficulty: 5 | Value: 2500

This is found in one of the long halls in the Monarch Room during the Wesker/Jill battle.  It’s so difficult to obtain because it requires a Partner Assist action.  It’s found in a sarcophagus in a room in the northwest corner of the map, and must be collected before Wesker’s 7 minute time-limit is up.

Emerald (Brilliant)

Availability: Chapter 5-3 | Difficulty: 4 | Value: 2500

This treasure is also found in the Monarch Room, and must be collected before you complete the battle with Jill.

Diamond (Brilliant)

Availability: Chapter 2-2 | Difficulty: 2 | Value: 4000

This treasure is found in the Mining area, inside a trunk on the ledge.  It’s next to a rusty truck, not far from the starting building.

Topaz (Marquise)

Availability: Chapter 1-1 | Difficulty: 3 | Value: 3000

This is found in the back alley.  To obtain it, you need to defeat the onslaught of Majini in their surprise attack.  This is easier said than done, since at this point in the game you have very little ammo, and there are no item drops.  It’s best to hold off on this until later visits, when you’ve stocked up on ammo and health.

Ruby (Marquise)

Availability: Chapter 2-1 | Difficulty: 3 | Value: 3000

There are a lot of stalls at The Port.  There are several of them that are arranged like a large square.  On several of the stalls there are some fruit piles, that conceal items, like shotgun shells or grenades.  Use a grenade and blow up the stalls.  This is located in a hidden chest in between the stalls.

Sapphire (Marquise)

Availability: Chapter 5-3 | Difficulty: 2 | Value: 3000

After the boss battle at the Research Facility, head out of the room and climb the ledge.  Follow the hall all the way to the end, where there’s a hidden room.  There’s a safe in this room, where you’ll find this treasure.

Emerald (Marquise)

Availability: Chapter 3-3 | Difficulty: 3 | Value: 3000

Once you’re at the last station in the Drilling Facilities, take a trip up to the building at the top of the bridge.  This can be difficult considering all of the enemies around.  Take them all out first and quickly make your way up to the building.  There’s nothing in this room, save for a little cabinet in the corner.  Open the drawer to reveal the Emerald Marquise.

Diamond (Marquise)

Availability: Chapter 6-3 | Difficulty: 5 | Value: 5000

This can only be found in the final battle with Wesker.  Once the battle begins, turn around and head forward.  Check out the path ahead.  There’s a small outcropping of rock that goes over the path.  It shouldn’t be there.  Shoot it with an RPG (don’t have one?  Don’t buy one–head over to the first level of The Marshlands and pick one up for free).  The rock should crumble…so will the path you’re on.  Once game play resumes after Chris has fallen, CAREFULLY run past Wesker to pick up the Diamond Marquise.  At this point, if you’ve collected ALL of the treasures, you should get a Trophy/Achievement ‘They Belong in a Museum.’  Then CAREFULLY run past Wesker again.  If you bite it, it doesn’t matter–you get to keep the Achievement and the prize.

Power Stone

Availability: NA | Difficulty: 3 | Value: 5000

Extremely valuable item–but it’s dropped by Reapers.

Lion Heart

Availability: Chapter 5-1 | Difficulty: 3 | Value: 2500

These are dropped by certain Lickers (not all of them.  It’s disappointing when the Lickers don’t drop them).

Blue Enigma

Availability: NA | Difficulty: 3 | Value: 3000

Defeat the Giant Majini.

Soul Gem

Availability: Chapter 4-1 | Difficulty: 4 | Value: 10,000

At the end of The Labyrinth, you have two options.  Fight Popokarimu in the cramped quadrant, or take off up the staircase.  Guess which one gets you the Soul Gem?  Buck up, soldier.

Heart of Africa

Availability: Chapter 5-3 | Difficulty: 5 | Value: 10,000

You need to free up a few minutes of Wesker’s time.  Inflict a sufficient amount of damage on Wesker and cause him to leave the battle before his seven minutes are up.  Given all the things you need to do in this area, plus his propensity for dodging all of your attacks, this can be excruciatingly difficult.  If you’re having difficulty, check our RoH’s Boss Strategy Guide for the best method of dispatching him early.  If you’re successful, not only will you acquire the Bad Blood Trophy/Achievement if it’s your first time, you’ll also find the Heart of Africa between the two staircases during the battle with Jill.  But if you don’t collect it……
