Yeah, it isn’t the commemorative title fans may have been wishing for, but at least we’re getting something. And by “we” I, of course, mean PSN owners who didn’t get a chance to experience the game due to its former  XBLA exclusivity. So now everyone gets to take part in some co-op ‘vania goodness. Let’s see how many Soma and Alucard players we’ll have once the game goes live on PSN, I’m sure it’ll be a lot.

Yes, according to a user on NeoGAF, next week will see the official announcement of a new Castlevania for the 3DS (as well as a new Contra and Fire Emblem title). The user also goes on to state how fans may not be too happy with the new direction the new game will be taking, which honestly worries me (despite being a rumor, albeit one that will most likely end up being true). We won’t have to wait long to find out if this is true or not. As always, stay tuned for more ‘vania coverage.

Out of the Vita’s line-up of titles set to have a showing at TGS, 18 of them will be completely new to everyone. Yeah, there’s going to be 18 unannounced titles on-hand. Which brings us back to Castlevania: The Complete Chronicles, which was part of a huge, leaked list of upcoming Playstation Vita titles that surfaced on the week of Gamescom. As expected, we didn’t hear anything whatsoever about any new Castlevania project from the event.

So that brings us to TGS 2011 taking place later this month. With 18 brand new Vita games set to be revealed, this could be the venue where we finally get to see the next big Castlevania title. It would be perfect timing too, since the event isn’t too far from the series upcoming 25th anniversary on September 26th.

We just put up a podcast interview our very own CJ Melendez held with the one and only, Troy Baker (of Final Fantasy XIII, Catherine and soon to be Silent Hill 2 fame, amongst loads of other games). If you haven’t listened to it already then shame on you. In it the voice actor shares his thoughts on Guy Cihi, who was the original voice actor for a character Troy will now be voicing, Silent Hill 2’s James Sunderalnd. He also talks about his beginnings in voice acting and his relationship with the Silent Hill series, amongst other topics.

Then he goes on to make one very interesting statement:

“We did Castlevania with them. I’m doing another game with them right now.”

Wait, what? As far as I know– and please correct me if I’m wrong– Troy Baker has yet to lend his voice to a Castlevania game. So, what is this talk of “did Castlevania with them” ? Did Troy just let slip one of Konami’s big surprises? We’re all expecting some form of celebratory game for the series 25th anniversary, so this may be related to that project. Or perhaps it’s for the inevitable Lords of Shadow sequel? When all is said and done, something tells me Troy will be voicing a Belmont, but that’s just pure speculation on my part.

While this PSN port won’t be getting any exlcusive DLC, as of this time, it will be busting out the gate with something the original, XBLA version didn’t have: local co-op. 4-player local co-op, to be exact. But that’s not all, Harmony of Despair will also be launching on PSN with some of the DLC that hit the XBLA version post-launch: The “Beauty, Desire, Situation Dire” map pack as well as the Julius Belmont and Yoko Belnades character packs.

So, why should us ‘vania fans care? Well, there’s one very striking inclusion in this list: Castlevania: The Complete Chronicles. What could this be? Well, it wouldn’t be too hard to expect some sort of compilation disc collecting the classic games in celebration of the series’ upcoming 25th anniversary. But, this could also be a “Chronicles” treatment for, perhaps, the classic games– meaning it might be more than just a mere collection. I guess we’re going to have to wait to find out if this is true or not. But fear not, Sony’s GamesCom conference is about to commence so we should definitely know more soon. Stay tuned.

Now, it’s Konami’s turn to add some more goodies into the mix with their recent update to their ‘Konami Retro Collection’ line which consists of Castlevania–and Rocket Knight– clothing for your avatar, as revealed on their official Facebook page. Clothing translates to three special Symphony of the night character-centric shirts. Each sports a portrait shot of three characters from the PS0ne classic: Alucard, Death and Dracula. I am currently working on two unannounced projects Dave. I couldn’t possibly say what they are

What could these projects be? Cox has already gone on record stating that him and his team have nothing planned for Castlevania’s upcoming 25th anniversary. So, could this be a sequel to Lords of Shadow and perhaps another ‘vania title? For the 3DS maybe? A Lords of Shadow sequel is more than likely so we can already safely speculate that that’s one of Cox’s current projects. But what of the second one?

I’ll probably run a speculation column on this very notion soon, so stay tuned for that. Also, make sure to check back frequently as we’ll have more Castlevania news for you.

It’s Tuesday so you know what that means! The Playstation Store has just been updated and along with a mega-Mega Man sale (an attempt by Capcom to ease the raging fanbase) and Freddy Krueger’s debut in Mortal Kombat, Castlevania fans have also been thrown a bone today. No, it’s not a game, instead it’s a theme for your PS3! A Symphony of the Night theme to be exact. Now, I still haven’t gotten a chance to take a gander at it myself, but I’m sure it may (or may not) look like the glorious artwork below. You can download the theme for $1.99.
