Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is a game that’s seemingly polarized the series’ fanbase since news broke out detailing the type of game it would be. At first, everyone was ecstatic about returning to the iconic city, in a game that might have been less lenient on action-packed affairs than Resident Evil 5. We ended up learning who was behind the title (Slant Six) and what the team would be bringing to the table for this squad-based third person shooter. Fans were split. But at the end of the day, one can’t deny the strong connections ORC does in fact have with the overall series– despite the game enabling players the ability to alter certain events in the lore.

What connections, I hear you ask? Well, the video below should help you see just what I’m talking about. And really, if you’ve been keeping up with all of our coverage of the game to date, then this shouldn’t really be all that new to you. From green herbs, crimson heads, and other classic BOWs to big baddies like William and Nemesis, there’s actually a lot for RE fans to be excited about here– if they’re willing to give the game a chance, of course. Fans of the highly atmospheric title Metro 2033 will have to wait a bit longer for the sequel, Last Light, to hit. Originally expected to hit in 2012, THQ has just revealed– through their third quarter financial earnings report– that the sequel will now hit during the Q1 2013 launch window.

Up until now we’ve already been treated to a few gameplay clips from the game, all of which indicated a much more action-oriented approach being taken for this sequel. So long as the atmosphere remains as superbly done as it was in the original, Last Light could prove to be a solid sequel. Or it could prove to be a typical sequel which only aims to up the ante when it comes to action-packed set pieces.

While we continue to salivate over Resident Evil 6 and next week’s Revelations, we all shouldn’t forget about another big game heading our way from our beloved franchise: Operation Raccoon City.

Making its way to North American retailers on March 20, ORC happens to be the game that is the least traditional, with Capcom opting to let Slant Six go wild with their previous background with the SOCOM series, leading to a squad-based third person shooter set during the time of the outbreak. Regardless, from all the time I’ve had with the game, I’m really excited about it and can’t wait to head into the hell that is Raccoon City all over again, all while reliving classic moments through the perspective of Umbrella.

There’s been no shortage of trailers when it comes to this game, and now we have a brand new one. This time we get a trailer that gives us a quick look at every one of the main characters in the game– representing the USS side and the Spec-Ops side. As was speculated back when they were first revealed, the Spec-Ops operatives really do match the USS ones nicely when it comes to class and specialty.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City videos continue to pour out. We already got to see the game’s opening moments, along with the G-Birkin boss battle, and today Game Trailers brings us another piece of footage from the game. This time it focuses on Nemesis and the NE-Beta parasite.

After battling through hordes of the undead in the city’s cemetery, the USS arrive in a secret warehouse where they’re tasked to find Nemesis and put him under control (by injecting a controlling agent extracted from a T-103 Tyrant). This is where things get crazy. The team is faced with NE-Beta parasite-controlled specimens, and they prove to be quite a threat. And then Nemesis wakes up, joining the party.

Again, I know you probably want to avoid videos such as this and experience these moments for yourself when the game hits in March, so feel free to avoid the footage below. For everyone else, sound off below letting me know what you think of this Nemesis encounter.

DLC support is a practice that’s been around for quite a while now, with its presence being known strongly in this current generation of consoles. It’s not exactly something gamers adore, either. I mean, don’t get me wrong, sometimes publishers do opt to release reasonable pieces of DLC for games at reasonable prices. But other times it seems like a desperate cash grab tactic– games being put out in an uncompleted state so that DLC could be sold post-launch. Having said that, fans looking forward to next week’s release of Resident Evil Revelations may be happy to know (or not) that the game won’t be met with post-launch DLC of any kind– you’ll be getting the full game as it was always intended.

Being asked if the game would see DLC support on Capcom-Unity’s forums, Capcom’s very own Christian Svensson replied by stating that:

The game would have needed to have had the hooks built into it to accept future DLC. That is not the case.

Well, there you have it. Come February 7 (in North America) we’ll be able to enjoy a full game without having to wait for any form of DLC. It’s like the good old days! Sounds off below letting me know how you feel about this. Did you want to see any DLC for the game’s Raid mode perhaps?

Remember that awesome Triple Impact trailer for Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City? It introduced us to the game’s Spec-Ops squad, giving us a look at the six soldiers in action. We got some crazy Licker-slaying action, and some intense gunfights leading up to the T-103 Tyrant’s arrival. Basically, it was breath-taking. And guess what? Those guys are actually going to have their very own campaign.

As the 20 achievements below reveal, the Spec-Ops-centered campaign– serving as post-launch DLC– will be known as the “Echo Six Expansion Pack.” And yeah, there’s 20 achievements with this piece of DLC alone. It looks like players will be very busy even after they’ve seen the ending of the USS squad’s tale.

Earlier today we posted footage showing off the first ten minutes of the game (courtesy of GamesReactorTV). This new footage (put up by GamesRadar) is a continuation of that, showing off the entire boss battle against G-Birkin. It’s a chase sequence that looks mighty intense. And as you can imagine, that bulging eyeball on William’s shoulder is what you want to concentrate fire on. Just sayin’.

“Evil goes global.” That truly describes the scope of this film, and how it’s set to take the action to a…global scale. This is, of course, worrying for Resident Evil fans yearning for a true horror film adaptation. And that right there is something that may not happen for quite a while, since Paul W.S. Anderson’s films are really good at bringing in money for Sony. So we can all rest assured there will be another sequel down the line.

Personally, I’m actually a fan of the films (gasp!). I enjoy them for what they are: fun, action-packed, popcorn flicks inspired by a universe I truly adore. Retribution is also set to bring in more of my favorite characters to the big screen (Ada, Barry, and Leon) so yes, I’m really excited. Go ahead, judge me. But first check out the film’s teaser poster below (that showcases the Umbrella logo in a very cool manner)!

Resident Evil Revelations has debuted in sixth on the UK software sales chart, making its launch the first of the new year to break the UK Top 40. Not only that, but the game has also seen the seventh largest for a 3DS title. Not bad, not bad at all. Now it’s time to see how the game fares, commercially, here in the States.

With the 3DS now picking up steam post-price drop (with Mario bringing in that big money), it’s always good to see its exclusive titles garnering big numbers, especially when it’s a Resident Evil title since the series isn’t exactly synonymous with handhelds. The North American launch is almost here!
